Our Mission

HSMAI DC Chapter offers an affordable way for providing continuing education and professional development for sales and marketing staff in the hospitality industry. It is our fundamental belief that as sales and marketing professionals, HSMAI is one of the few places that provide education and professional development and networking specific to the actual hospitality employees in a non-competitive environment.

Educational Events

Our chapter will be hosting a variety of different types of educational programs through out the year. These programs are designed to help provide either industry knowledge (i.e. trends regarding how customers are buying hotels online versus offline), improve a skill set (i.e. use outlook rules to improve your organizational skills allowing you to reach to business faster), or gain general knowledge about a subject that can improve your ability to do your job.

Included in all of the events is time to socialize with your industry peers. The purpose behind the socializing is to allow you to develop a network that you can utilize when you are seeking out information to help you in your daily lives. For current program information click on Upcoming Events or view the calendar for a complete listing of future dates and venues. Registration for events may be completed on this web site or by contacting info@hsmaidc.org. Meetings are comprised of a networking session prior to the scheduled educational program. If you are interested in hosting any of these events, please contact us at info@hsmaidc.org

Awards & Recognition

The DC Chapter of HSMAI wants to recognize the leaders in our industry. The chapter has traditional accomplished this by inducting a member into the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame Awards were started in 1986 to recognize those that have made a lifelong contribution to the greater Washington DC hospitality industry. Beginning in 2005, the Chapter expanded their recognition awards to include the following performance awards:

  • General Manager
  • Director of Sales & Marketing
  • National Sales Team
  • Destination Sales & Marketing Team
  • Revenue Management
  • Vendor Partnership

These awards have been created to honor and showcase those individuals and teams in the travel and hospitality industry that embrace making sales and marketing their mantra for performance excellence. Judging for each award is based on three main criteria: statistical, leadership and participation in HSMAI and the DC Chapter programs. Judges are comprised of leading members of the travel community who determine category scores independently of one another. Scores are then added cumulatively and an average score is determined.
